I recently did an interview with Jay Cochran from ENI ,and I’m pleased to share it here. In this interview I talk about my transistion from cosplay to burlesque,my inspirations, and the difference between burlesque and stripping.
Here’s exerpt from the interview –please do click through and read the whole thing on ENI website!
Jay: When some people hear the term Burlesque dancer, they automatically think stripper. What do you say to those people and,in your own words, what is the difference between the two?
Pam: There are a couple different explanations I use to explain the difference between burlesque and stripping. First of all,I don’t have a problem with stripping or the sex industry. I don’t believe it is a shameful line of work. I’m not insulted if a person argues that stripping and burlesque are the same;that person is just wrong.
A lot of people assume that the point of burlesque is to titillate men,but I refute that. I have never met a burlesque performer who chooses that goal. Most amateur performers want to express something about their identity or sexuality. Most aim to entertain;a lot of people want to titillate, but in a way that plays with gender and beauty norms, challenging the audience to think about what is sexy. Some women want to recreate a glamorous fantasy for the audience—but it is still a fantasy the performer chooses, and it’s not specifically targeting the male desires or definitions of sexuality. At EVERY show I have had women approach me from the audience and tell me how they felt liberated and inspired by the stripping they saw.
Burlesque is in the entertainment (variety arts) industry. Stripping is in the sex industry. Burlesque is about expression;it is defined and articulated by the performer. Stripping is about selling a product;it is driven by what the audience expects and wants to pay for. When you see the former, you are buying a ticket for a show where you will see many artists performing the acts they created and chose to feature. At the latter, you enter, choose a woman you like, and pay to interact with her, request her to do certain actions, etc.
Though an audience member may see/perceive the same “show” at either venue (it’s possible but RARE!)… on the other side of the stage line, the experience is so astoundingly different, that I can’t even fathom the conclusion that the two are indistinguishable.
I had a WONDERFUL time performing at Jim Thorpe Burlesque Fest!
Jim Thorpe is such a quaint, charming little town with a fun community! Our Big Reveal performance on Saturday boasted a totally sold out and enthusiastic crowd! I loved performing there!
And…I won First Runner Up for my performance of my mime act!
The best part was meeting so many amazing performers. There were many awesome ladies from right next door –Baltimore,Richmond, and DC –that I haven’t yet had the pleasure of meeting. Like Bianca Dupree,Deanna Danger, and Mourna Handful &Eyrie Twilight! Also loved meeting fabulous girls from New York,Sizzle Dizzle &The Incredible,Edible Akynos, they just blew me away!
And of course, hanging out with my BFF &mentor Red Hot Annie was the BEST!!!
Pam’s burlesque style is fun, sassy,a little unexpected, but easy …to swallow…she has also got the pipes to ring out a few singing routines!. Marilyn Monroe impersonations? You bet!
Stella Sweet is exactly that! One sweet performer. Mixing her talent for dance with her skills of burlesque Stella has been rocking crowds all over the DMV.
She is back! Ludmilla’s “I don’t care”attitude is making her a hit with every crowd she encounters.
Our feature comedian Tyler Richardson has worked with national touring headliners such as Aisha Tyler,Rob Cantrell,Alonzo Bodden,Reggie Watts,Kyle Grooms and more. He can also be heard on XM/Sirius Satellite Radio’s Too Much Information. Come enjoy his stories and laugh until he is done going through your pocket contents and belongings,he is not above looting.
Our guest comedian is Nate Johnson. You can catch Nate every Thursday hosting The Comedy Spot open mic. Nate Johnson got into comedy after failing at being an Average Joe.
Our last show sold out–no,we OVERSOLD it! So be sure to buy tickets online today!
A fun capture from one of my favorite gigs lately –La Boum Brunch at L’Enfant Cafe! Every Saturday this cafe shuts the blinds and turns up the music as the champagne flows…it’s a party brunch!
The photo above is courtesy of Bitches Who Brunch,a sassy little blog about brunch and other delicious topics in DC.
You can read another lucious write up of La Boum on the Examiner as well! And there are some more photos of Wham Bam Pam in action:)
Check my calendar (on the right!) to see when I’ll be performing at La Boum, and other great shows across the DC area and beyond! Hope to see you out some time~

The Juice Box was a smashing success! Thanks SO much to everyone who came out! We totally oversold –We even had people seated on the stage with me dancing around and smacking them with discarded clothing (sorry, guys!). It was truly a blast –one of those shows that just refreshes you and pumps you up to work even harder and keep doing more awesome shows! Hopefully I’ll get some pics from that show soon,so stay tuned!
Speaking of new awesome shows…Prolific Burlesque Sensation Kitty Victorian contacted me to participate in a new upcoming show, and I’m so glad she did! I can’t wait to perform at Asylum,a cool “Rock &Roll Lounge”in Adams Morgan in DC. The show feature four fabulous performers of burlesque, sideshow &bellydance! PLUS,I’ve got a brand new act that’s a little bit cute and a little bit raunchy –a true one-two punch in the Wham Bam Pam style! ;)
So come out and check out this show,it’sure to an interesting and fun night!
Hello, friends &fans! If you’re looking for something to do on Saturday night,I have a suggestion –check out The Juice Box!
Let me tell you a little about this show…So this guy Mike Black came up to me one night and said “I’m a hilarious stand up comedian and I have an idea for a show featuring other local standup comedians, and mixing in local burlesque performers!”And I thought, what a cool idea! So along with the help of Jessica Brodkin,Phillippe Shafer and myself (Wham Bam Pam),Mike created this unique show,a great mix of funny/sexy that we hope will appeal to fans of both laughing and looking at cute girls.
This Saturday is our first show, and we are all excited! With success and great ticket sales,we hope to create a new type of show in a new venue that will delight local performers and fans alike, expanding our rich collaborative community.
If you’re not convinced,consider this:
Location:Ballston mall, right on the Ballston Orange Line stop Time:7:30pm,so after you laugh your ass off you will have the whole night ahead of you Cost:it’s only $10!
